Emerging markets have had a good start to 2016 but, as over the past few fallow years, risks still abound so investors still need to be targeted in where they invest

Rishikesh Patel is a specialist emerging market fund manager with BMO Global Asset Management so is used to the vagaries of the risk/reward equation in the asset class. Rather than doubling the analysis needed to run a growth and income portfolio, he sees some company characteristics such as cashflow and profit generation as a good indicator of the ability to provide both.

Here he outlines where he sees the best opportunities for each with a mandate that includes the ever-blurring line between emerging and frontier markets.
