For income investors, which is the chicken and which is the egg out of weak macros or poor company fundamentals?

Income is one of the holy trinity - along with capital growth and capital preservation - that investors almost demand as a hygiene factor from their wealth managers.

The fund managers they go to for this much-needed income face weak economies that are unlikely to change soon and companies that have their own calls on their cashflow, with dividends one of many calls.

We spoke to a number of specialist income managers to get their opinion of how to work through these two challenges.
